Literary Retellings: Youtube

I do believe that this is relevant.

Infusions of Wit from a Book Loving Fool

Recently, Hello Giggles wrote an article highlighting some of the best web series on Youtube: the literary retellings (if you click above, the link will take you there). I admire the article, but in my humble opinion they missed a few. In that spirit I decided to write my own little blurb about some of the best retellings on the interwebs. They’re listed in the order they popped into my head…

1. Jules andMonty. I just finished watching this and the end…oh the end. This is the retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet done by Tufts University students. It’s all student cast (with the exception of Friar Lawrence) and intersperses some of the original dialogue throughout. I found it a little odd, but after the first two episodes it became normal and I became entranced with Jules and Monty’s epic tale. It led me to believe that the story…

ANNOUNCEMENT: From Page to Screen

Adaptation has some exciting news!

In a fated cataclysm of events, Adaptation is being allowed to attend and cover Bridport’s From Page to Screen film festival. This year, the festival will be curated by BBC Radio 4’s Francine Stock and host a long list of exciting guests such as The Woman in Black‘s director James Watkins, screenwriter Miora Buffini and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen‘s screenwriter Simon Beaufoy.

See the full brochure here.

Host Kendyl Bryant will be journeying to Bridport for the festival this coming week to get the scoop from the planning committee and guests on the festival itself and the ups and downs of adapting the written word for film.

Stay tuned for episodes to come!

Back from the holidays!

Hello Adaptations listeners!

I hope everyone had a great holiday season. We’re quite far into the new year now, I know, and it’s been a long time since we’ve had an episode or an update.

I have to admit, this is my fault. I kept meaning to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I just never did. Jess, on the other hand, ever the responsible one, has read it and will be our authority on it for the upcoming episode.

Speaking of which, it’s going to be a crazy one. Since we’ve been gone for so long, and I feel like we’ve missed a lot, we’re going to be jamming three books into a single Adaptation.

As I mentioned, Jess will be heading up Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo discussion, Corey will be back again to talk about Janet Evanovich’s One For the Money and I will have read Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black. It’s a lot to fit in one episode, but we’ll try to keep it brief and do each novel justice.

Until then, happy reading!
