A True Asgardian Switch: Zachary Levi to Play Fandral in Thor 2

If anyone’s been listening to the buzz surrounding the next Marvel adaptation, Thor 2 has officially confirmed rumors that Chuck’s Zachary Levi will be replacing Josh Dallas as Fandral, one of the Asgardian adventurers fighting alongside Thor.

Incidentally, Levi was originally cast as Fandral in Thor, but was forced to back out when his series, Chuck, was renewed for its fifth and final season. The role was then given to Josh Dallas instead. This time around, the tides have turned. Now, Dallas’s commitment to his new show, ABC’s Once Upon a Time, has left him unable to film in the Thor sequel. So, the Fandral mantle has come full circle, as Levi officially accepted the role in an announcement on the Jay Leno show earlier this week.

So, what do you think about this casting change? On the one hand, it would have been nice to see a reprise of Josh Dallas’s goateed warrior in Thor 2. There was a reason he was cast as OUAT’s Prince Charming. He practically screams the “irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic” that is Fandral.

But on the other hand…ZACHARY LEVI!!! I was a huge Chuck fan – who doesn’t love the nerdy hero/kick-ass spy? And I fell even more in love with him as the voice of Flynn Rider in Tangled. So I’m particularly excited to see what he can do with a Marvel character. And I don’t know about anyone else, but with Zachary Levi on the set, Chris Hemsworth will have some competition in the heartthrob compartment!
