Kendyl interviews Rainy Kerwin about her new film, The Wedding Invitation (2017), following three friends who set out to pursue their dream guys in time to bring them to the 80s prom-themed wedding of the coolest girl in their high school class.

Rainy Kerwin is the award-winning, writer-director-actress of the female buddy comedy, The Wedding Invitation. She was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Winnipeg, Canada. Inspired to create more funny roles for women, Rainy penned The Wedding Invitation. She then went on to shoot the film with an all-female crew making a small dent in the low numbers of women working in Hollywood. Rainy is an actors’ director and loves working with talent. She honed her directing skills during eight years on staff at The Playground, an acting conservatory in Los Angeles. She’s coached and directed over 1000 actors. The Wedding Invitation is her directorial debut.
Rainy comes from a strong background in acting, having studied at The University of Manitoba, Manitoba Theatre Exchange and Playhouse West. Rainy played the lead role of Mary in the feature film Pride and Prejudice. Variety called her “The hilariously repressed Kerwin”. Other feature film credits include, In My Life, The Trouble With The Truth and Fracture. Rainy has spent a lot of time on the stage as an improv actor. Her comedy troupe, “So Funny It Squirts” had a two-year residence at the LA Connection Theater. Her all-female comedy troupe, “The Fluffers” opened to sold out houses and rave reviews in Hollywood.
As a writer, Rainy’s scripts have been shortlisted for the Meryl Streep Women In Film Lab and the PGA Proshow Awards. She’s twice been a top 12% of The Nicholl Fellowship and garnered a $500K grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.
Rainy was an extremely hands-on producer with The Wedding Invitation from funding all the way through post-production. She is the founder of It’s Raining Films, the production company behind The Wedding Invitation & the platform BuyWomen.com—a site dedicated to drive audiences to see more films written and directed by women. She’s a proud member of Women In Film, Film Fatales and the Alliance of Women Directors. The Wedding Invitation is the first of a 3-picture slate she is producing with her production company.
